About
Screening of "Erster Verlust" (First Loss), Maxim Dessau's 1990 East German (DEFA) feature debut, shot in stark black-and-white with fragmentary storytelling and live sound: in 1942, a farm woman and her sister-in-law deal with a Soviet prisoner of war assigned to their farm as forced labour. German with English subtitles, followed by a talk with director Maxim Dessau and Peter Badel, moderated by Philip Zengel, at Sinema Transtopia in Berlin as part of the "Film Restored – Risky Business" series.
