About

Screening of the 2021 documentary 'Life of Ivanna' (Zhizn Ivanny), a observational portrait of a chain-smoking Nenets reindeer-herding woman raising five children in a fur-covered tent on Russia's Yamal Peninsula while dreaming of a house in town; it won the top prize at the Zurich Film Festival. Director Renato Borrayo Serrano, born in Guatemala and trained at Moscow's film school, discusses the shoot, minorities in Russia and exile with Heleen Gerritsen in English, as part of the Stadtbilder series at the Deutsche Kinemathek's Studiokino (film in Russian/Nenets with English subtitles, 79 min).
